Brandin Cooks scorches Sean Smith for 98-yard TD (Video)

Brandin Cooks will be a mainstay in the Saints offense if this incredible scoring play becomes a regular day at the office for him.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks has made the most explosive play of the day so far. He torched the Oakland Raiders defense with an insane touchdown reception that went for a whopping 98 yards. Here is a video of Cooks demonstrating why the Saints traded up for him in the first round a couple of years ago.

Raiders defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. is sure to be furious with cornerback Sean Smith after that play. Smith was signed as a free agent by the Raiders last offseason. This is obviously not the start he had in mind. Cooks used his unique speed to get open and leave himself uncovered. After a relatively long pass from elite quarterback Drew Brees, the Raiders defenders were unable to catch Cooks. He cruised to the end zone to give the Saints a 24-10 lead.

As of this amazing play, Cooks already has six catches for 143 yards and a touchdown. The Saints were slight underdogs heading into this game despite playing on their home field. You can never count out the Saints offense when it is led by Brees. Cooks has given him perhaps the most dynamic receiving weapon of his career. Despite the Saints’ prolific offense, they were counted out by the entire sports media heading into the season.

Their defensive woes made them underdogs against a Raiders team that is considered to be young and rising with quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper. It appears that the Raiders may still have some growing pains to endure before they become a playoff team. The Saints may be a sneaky playoff contender themselves if they can continue this kind of play, though.
