Blair Walsh emotional, accepts blame for missing Vikings' FG

Sitting in his locker after the Seahawks' 10-9 win against the Vikings, the emotions came pouring out of Blair Walsh.

Walsh, who missed the would-be, go-ahead 27-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter, accepted the blame for the defeat that eliminated his team from the postseason.

"It's my fault. I don't care if you give me a watermelon hold, I should be able to put that through," Walsh said, via the Star Tribune's Matt Vensel. "Jeff did his job and Kevin did his job. I'm the only one who didn't do my job. That's on me."

Despite making three previous field goals on Sunday, the fourth-year kicker missed the one that mattered most. The kick, which would've given the Vikings the lead and most likely the victory, sailed left.

"I know I'm one of the better kickers in the league," Walsh said. "I know that sounds kind of crazy right now. But my record says that. But the one they needed the most today I didn't make. These guys deserved to win. ... Those guys played their hearts out. They were the people who fought today."

No matter if the snap was off or placeholder Jeff Locke didn't spin the laces towards the goal post, it will be Walsh who is remembered for missing the kick.

"I thought the snap was a little high, but it's a chip shot. He's got to make it," head coach Mike Zimmer said.

Walsh undoubtedly is dealing with a lot grief (as heard by the team's radio announcer) and his kick adds a new chapter to a painful history of playoff misery for the Vikings.
