Bills safety hurt by brutal block might be done with football

Aaron Williams will wait until after the season to decide if he'll still play football, his father told the Associated Press, after the Buffalo Bills safety suffered his second neck injury on a brutal block by Miami Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry.

Williams is out indefinitely after absorbing the hit in Sunday's loss at Miami. He was briefly hospitalized and released. Williams also was hurt last season and had neck fusion surgery last October.

Landry, who apologized to Williams, reportedly was fined $24,309 by the NFL. Vice president of officiating Dean Blandino told SI's Greg Bedard that while it was an illegal hit to the head, it was "a football play" —€” something Bills coach Rex Ryan disagrees with.

"Did he launch? Target? Yeah," Ryan told reporters Monday. "Unsportsmanlike? Yeah. Now I have a player in jeopardy. Never need to launch, hit a guy in the head or neck. They say it's a football play. It wasn't."

Meanwhile, Williams' future remains in doubt. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore told the AP that Williams is experiencing numbness in one of his arms, and Williams' father Anthony said his son will consult his entire family to "make the best decision that's right for him."
