Bills release former No. 1 pick Mario Williams
Defensive end Mario Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in 2006, has been released by the Buffalo Bills, as first reported by ESPN's Josina Anderson and confirmed by FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo.
Williams signed a six-year deal worth nearly $100 million with Buffalo in 2012 and posted double-digit sacks in his first three seasons with the Bills.
However, he registered just five sacks in 2015. Garafolo says Williams was due $14 million in total compensation this season.
For his career, Williams has 96 sacks.
The Bills also used their non-exclusive franchise tag on offensive tackle Cordy Glenn on Tuesday.
