Bills CB Stephon Gilmore: I want to cover Gronk

Rob Gronkowski has proven to be virtually uncoverable for the New England Patriots in his career. His combination of size and speed makes him a defender's worst nightmare.

Each week, someone is going to get the assignment of covering Gronk -- typically a safety or coverage linebacker. Ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Patriots, though, Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore hopes he is pegged with that very task.

"I hope I get Gronk, to be honest with you," Gilmore said, via Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News. We’ll see what the coaching staff says."

One would be reasonable to ask why Gilmore would want such an impossible challenge. Here's his response to that question.

"Because I know the ball’s going to him."

Gilmore obviously doesn't lack confidence, which is an important trait for a defensive back in the NFL. His performance against the Colts on Sunday backed up that confidence as he played a fantastic game en route to shutting down Andrew Luck and the high-powered offense.

It's up to the coaching staff as to whether or not Gilmore will be assigned to Gronkowski, but it will likely be one of Buffalo's safeties on the big tight end. If there isn't a good fit, however, Gilmore is ready if the challenge presents itself.

"He’s a bigger guy so it’s not like I’m going inside on a smaller guy," Gilmore said. "But like I said, it’s whatever the coaches want me to do to help this team win. I want him.”
