Beyonce's mention of Red Lobster in halftime show creates sales surge

Customers see food differently at Red Lobster after Super Bowl 50.

After Beyonce called out the restaurant chain during her halftime performance in her new song "Formation," it has experienced an uptick in visitors and sales.

In fact, sales have jumped 33 percent since Beyonce's new song. The mention also paved the way for something that had never occurred regarding the restaurant: For the first time, Red Lobster went trending on Twitter.

"We are absolutely delighted with what we saw over the weekend, particularly the consumer sentiment that we saw expressed," CEO Kim Lopdrup said, via Forbes.com. "It's clear that Beyonce has helped create some Red Lobster fans, and we are very grateful to her for that."

Since Beyonce's performance, she has drawn criticism by New York's former mayor Rudy Giuliani and others for using the halftime show as a platform for social change.
