Bengals take S Shawn Williams in 3rd round

The Bengals chose safety Shawn Williams from Georgia in the third round of the NFL draft,

Cincinnati has been trying to shore up the position for several years. Williams was the second defensive player taken by the Bengals.

The Bengals opened their draft by taking Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert in the first round. They had two picks in the second round and went with running back Giovani Bernard from North Carolina and defensive end Margus Hunt, a track and field star-turned-football player from Estonia and SMU.

Also Friday, the Bengals agreed to a three-year deal with right tackle Andre Smith, who had been an unrestricted free agent. The deal allows Cincinnati to return its offense intact from last season.
