Ben Roethlisberger injury update: Steelers QB injures knee

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went to the locker room after injuring his left knee. His return is questionable.

On Sunday afternoon against the Miami Dolphins, the Steelers are winning. However, their long-term hopes of winning a Super Bowl could be going down the drain. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was hit from behind and had to leave the game, limping off the field and into the locker room with a left knee injury. His return is questionable.

If Roehtlisberger is out for any extended period of time, you can just about hand the AFC home-field advantage mantle to the New England Patriots. Pittsburgh and New England are the only two teams entering the day at 4-1 in the AFC, along with the Oakland Raiders. However, it would be shocking if Oakland keeps up the pace.

Without Roethlisberger, the Steelers would be forced to turn to Landry Jones. Jones was forced into action last season and when he had to start, it was ugly. Jones certainly is nowhere near being a starting-caliber quarterback, and would take a ton of bite out of Pittsburgh’s explosive offense.

We will continue to update the injury. If it is only a sprain, Roethlisberger could miss a week or two and return. However, any kind of ligament damage would all but end his season.
