Baltimore Ravens: Ranking Best-Worst Uniform Combinations

I rank the Baltimore Raven’s uniform combinations from the best looking to the worst

I am no fashion expert, but I do take notice to different uniforms that NFL teams wear. People always say, “look good, you play good” so it is important to be dressing well on the field. The Baltimore Ravens have not had a lot of uniform combinations since they became a franchise in 1996.

Compared other teams, the Ravens keep their uniforms fairly standard. Some have been great, but some have also been very ugly. In this article, I take a look at all of the uniforms that the Ravens have wore and rank them best to worst.

What do you think is the best combination?

#1. Black Jersey, Black Pants

This is the best jersey combination for the Ravens, no doubt about it. This jersey was first brought out in the 2004 season. There is nothing like watching the team run out on in those uniforms when AC/DC’s “Back in Black” is blaring. When the Ravens come out in these jerseys, they look like they are ready to play. The black on black is an intimidating look, especially when you see Terrell Suggs and company walk out.

The black jerseys, black pants, and black helmets make it a complete uniform. The white letters pop right out on the black background.

Studies also say that wearing black makes you look slimmer, so it is hard to argue against that.

#2. 2016 Color Rush

When Nike took over the NFL jerseys in 2012, things began to look much better. In 2016, all 32 NFL teams wore their color rush jerseys on their Thursday night football match-up.
I was skeptical of how the Raven’s jerseys were going to look, but it turned out well. The purple was much darker than the usual uniforms, which worked perfectly with the gold numbers.

Some Raven’s fans argued that this combination should be featured in the normal rotation and I don’t disagree with them.

#3. Purple Jersey, Black Pants

The best mismatch uniform combination that the Ravens have is the purple jersey and black pants. It takes two of the best colors the Ravens have and combines them together to make a great looking uniform. If I am a player, I am asking to wear these uniforms. The dark on dark colors always look better for some reason, I am not sure why.

The Ravens do not seem to wear this combination very often and has only been seen in some select games. I think that is a good thing, because it does not overdo the the combination.

#4. White Jersey, Black Pants

This may not be one of the most popular combinations, but I love when the Ravens pull out these uniforms. The team chose to wear these jerseys during their 2012 playoff run. During this run, Joe Flacco played the best football of his career. He tied Joe Montana as the only two quarterbacks to ever throw 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in the playoffs.  Since then, his play has not lived up to the hype.

If Joe Flacco is playing well in these jerseys, then Ravens need to keep wearing them. I do not care if they have to wear them every game for the rest of his career. If the team is winning, people are not going to complain.

#5. Purple Jersey, White Pants

Any time the Ravens wear purple jerseys, they look good. Unlike the color rush purple, this purple is a bit lighter. I think this works a lot better with the white pants than a darker purple would. These jerseys bring back the nostalgia of the old Baltimore Ravens teams. The purple  jersey with the Baltimore B logo is a sentimental look.

I think that the Ravens should bring back the old logo when they are wearing these jerseys. Plenty of teams wear throwback jerseys during the season. Since the Ravens franchise is now 20+ years old, I would be appropriate to wear a throwback.

#6. White Jersey, White Pants

Not a huge fan of these, but I do have to give these uniforms some credit. The Ravens won their first Super Bowl in 2000 while wearing them. Watching Ray Lewis and company hold up the Lombardi trophy wearing the all white is something special for Ravens fans. The purple stripe on the side of the pants pops out and it is the best part of the uniform.

My problem with this combination is that the all white gets dirty too quickly. It takes too man Tide stain removers to clean these jerseys after games. It’s like if you were to buy an all white pair of Converse or Vans sneakers. You know they are going to get dirty, so why get them in the first place? It is just asking for trouble.

#7. Black Jersey, White Pants

Nothing really stands out to me with these jerseys. Do not get me wrong, they are not terrible, but they just do not excite me like some of the others . When John Harbaugh first came to Baltimore, it was said that he did not like the black on black jerseys, so he brought back these uniforms.

Because of this, I am going to have to dock points. How can you not like the black on black combination Harbaugh? Shame on you. I think most people can agree that it is one of the best combinations that the Ravens wear.

#8. Purple Jersey, Gold Pants

The Raven’s introduced these jersey’s during the end of the 2015 season and they did not get a warm welcome. During a terrible 2015 season the team wanted to switch things up, but it did not really work out. The combination of gold pants, purple jersey, and black helmets was too much to look at. The gold ended up looking more like mustard than gold.

There is no reason that these jerseys should ever be seen again. If I am Steve Bisciotti, I fire any player or coach who suggests that the team wears this jersey in an upcoming game. They should be locked away in a closet to never be worn again.
