Arizona Cardinals: Receiver depth an issue
The Arizona Cardinals have been hit hard with injuries and other issues at receiver in 2016
The one position that looked like was secure and loaded for the Arizona Cardinals heading into 2016 was at receiver. Now, there is a chance the position could look completely different in 2017.
The Cardinals have continuously had to make changes at receiver during the season. First, they lost Jaron Brown to injury. Then John Brown was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Trait. He has been inconsistent even when he’s had the chance to play.
Then this past week with Michael Floyd getting a DUI arrest, he was cut by the team and picked up by the New England Patriots. He is traveling with them to Denver this weekend.
There is also the case of Larry Fitzgerald. He is having another fantastic season. However he has been slowed by injury but never out. There have been rumors of him retiring possibly after this season.
With the way things have gone for the Cardinals in 2017, I have a hard time believing that Fitz will leave without giving it one more shot.

After he landed third on the all-time receptions list a couple of weeks ago, Fitz did mention he would not be around to catch number two on the list, Tony Gonzalez. Theoretically, of Fitz continued his current pace, he’d be there by playing three more seasons, possibly just two. That comment in itself leads many to believe he’s almost done.
The Cardinals signed Jeremy Ross this week. He last played for the New York Jets this season.
The Cardinals go into Sunday with Fitz still the number one receiver. After that, the Cardinals have John Brown, J.J. Nelson and Brittan Golden. Right now, its not a lot to write home about.
This may be the offseason the Cardinals go land themselves another receiver or two. I’d look for at least one to be drafted. If next season is truly Fitz’s last, as with quarterback, it is time to start planning now. Right now, hope and pray the Cardinals get through 2017 without further incident.
