Arizona Cardinals: Larry Fitzgerald returning in 2017

Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald has made his decision regarding the 2017 NFL season

There was a feeling a decision was going to come soon after Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald made public appearances this week at the Phoenix Waste Management Open.  The decision is official. Fitz is coming back.

Fitz had initially indicated he was going to take some time after the season to allow his body to heal.  He went through a couple of injuries this season.

This week he told reporters that he was feeling much better.  That was the first indication he may be ready to return.

The second indication was that he mentioned he had made up his mind but taking a little more time to make the announcement official.  He said towards the end of the season we wouldn’t know ahead of time of his decision.  Tuesday was about as close as he had come in telling people what he would do.

Fitz indicated to ESPN’s Jim Trotter that his contract goes through the end of the 2017 season, so he intends to see it through.  This news should be met with many cheers from Cardinals fans.

Fitz lead the NFL in receptions in 2016 with 107.  He had 1,023-yards receiving and six touchdowns.

The big question now is does this pave the way for Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer to return in 2017.  There were rumors on Tuesday that he had sold his house.  I wasn’t buying it until Palmer said so himself.

On Tuesday, Palmer said his house had not been sold.  His family is still here, kids still in school.

Fitz will be entering his 14th season in the NFL in 2017.  You have to wonder if the Super Bowl next season being in Minneapolis had something to do with his decision?  He had indicated earlier it wasn’t a factor.  A part of him had to be thinking about it though.

Either way this is welcome news for Birdgang.  Hopefully the Cardinals surround him with enough talent to make another run in 2017.
