Andy Reid turns to a trusted assistant to take over for Doug Pederson

The Kansas City Chiefs will replace and up-and-coming playcaller with an established one in 2016.

They've tapped longtime Andy Reid aide Brad Childress as their new offensive coordinator. The former Vikings head coach will replace departed assistant Doug Pederson.

Via NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport:

Childress was Reid's offensive coordinator with the Eagles from 2002-05. His offenses ranked in the top 10 in two of those four seasons.

But despite his allegiances, Childress has occupied a bizarre office with the Chiefs since his arrival in 2013. His official title? "Spread Game Analyst and Special Projects" -- the only position of its kind in the NFL.

Now, he'll accept the special project of keeping Kansas City's offense in playoff form for next season.
