Andy Reid says blowout loss to Steelers isn't 'the end of the world'
Andy Reid has been around for a while. He’s been a head coach for 18 years and endured 163 losses throughout his career. Not all of those have been close, heartbreaking defeats as many were blowouts – much like the one he and the Kansas City Chiefs suffered on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Chiefs were dominated in every facet en route to a 43-14 loss, but Reid isn’t hitting the panic button yet.
"We're 2-2," Reid said, via the team's official site. "It's not the end of the world, even though it feels that way. That's how things are in the National Football League. We've got a week to step back, analyze and fix some of these issues."
The Chiefs are familiar with being a few wins shy of where they want to be. Last season, they were sitting at 1-5 before rattling off 10 straight wins to make the postseason. Being 2-2 isn’t ideal, but it’s far from a season-ending record, as Reid said.
Reid isn’t the only one to sustain his confidence after the disappointing loss. Linebacker Derrick Johnson says the Chiefs will learn from this and get better.
“You learn a lot about yourself when you get your butt kicked,” veteran Derrick Johnson said. “The best thing about it is it counts as one game. It does not put a damper on the season, and it does not set us into panic mode.
“We’ll learn a lot about our team’s character after something like this. We were tested and we’ll have to see if we can rise up to the challenge.”
Kansas City is just beginning to get healthy again with Jamaal Charles and Tamba Hali likely to see increased roles in the coming weeks. Sure, they’re two games behind the Broncos in the AFC West, but it’s still relatively early in the season.
