Andy Reid announces Alex Smith will start on Sunday against the Panthers

Nick Foles helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to consecutive victories after starting quarterback Alex Smith went down with a concussion two weeks ago, but it sounds like his services will no longer be needed.

Head coach Andy Reid announced on Monday that Smith will start next week against the Carolina Panthers, as long as there are no setbacks between now and then.

Smith suffered a head injury on two separate occasions in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. After taking a blow to the head early in the game, Smith re-entered before suffering another shot to the helmet in the second half. Foles took over for Smith in both instances, completing 16 of 22 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns against the Colts.

On Sunday, Foles started in the Chiefs’ win over the Jaguars. He went 20-for-33 with 187 yards and a touchdown in the team’s 19-14 victory.

Regardless of who’s played quarterback (or running back, for that matter), the Chiefs have had a great deal of success. They’re 6-2 with their only losses coming to the Texans and Steelers.
