Andre Hal emphasizes versatility for Texans

After appearing in 14 games at cornerback as a rookie, Andre Hal may be on the move.

With the recent release of D.J. Swearinger, the Houston Texans have a need at safety and the team feels Hal may be just the man to help fill in. Houston head coach Bill O'Brien said on Monday Hal has been taking reps at the new position during OTAs.

"We’ve put Andre Hal there," O'Brien said, according to the team's official website. "He’s done some good things at safety over the first four OTAs that we’ve had."

Hall, Houston's seventh-round pick in 2014 out of Vanderbilt, said he's embracing the opportunity to take on new responsibilities in the defensive backfield.

“I’m trying to do whatever I can to make the team," Hal said. "We need some help at safety. We lost a couple guys. I’m just trying to step up and help the team.”

Hall's work ethic has already impressed fellow safety Rahim Moore.

"He's done a great job," Moore said. "He's competitive. He's very inquisitive. He's always asking questions. He's always putting in extra work after practice, and that's what it's all about."

The 23-year-old Hall, who made 15 tackles as rookie credits familiarity with the defense and increased time spent in the weight room for his success this far during OTAs.

"I’ve been working out all offseason," Hal said. "Just trying to get better, trying to get bigger, trying to get faster, so I’m ready.”
