Ameer Abdullah making a solid first impression at Lions camp

With Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell sidelined, the spotlight has been on second-round rookie Ameer Abdullah in training camp. So far, Abdullah has been impressive.

"I go into camp saying I want to be better than I was the day before," Abdullah said, via ESPN's Michael Rothstein. "[Monday] was a good day, but it could be a lot better. Tempo was good, but it could be better. Finish better, catch every pass thrown my way. So it could be better."

Although Bell is in line to earn the starting job, Abdullah is quickly gaining ground on him in the running back competition. At the pace he's going, it won't be long until the Nebraska product is Detroit's featured ball-carrier.

Abdullah's not trying to think too much or too far ahead, though.

"That’s when you play slow, so I’m pretty comfortable right now and I’m getting faster and faster," Abdullah said, per ESPN. "Each day is a new process. So hopefully tomorrow is faster than today."

It's still too early to know what the plans are at the position, but the Lions will almost certainly employ both Bell and Abdullah in some capacity this season.
