Aldon Smith Decision Due This Week

A decision regarding the status of Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith, who was suspended for one year on November 17, 2015, will be made in the upcoming week.

November 17th was the one year mark of Aldon Smith’s suspension — the day he officially became eligible for reinstatement. Now 10 days beyond that, Aldon, the Raiders, and the fanbase still await a decision from Roger Goodell.

But per Adam Schefter, that decision will come this week.

From an article Schefter posted on ESPN.com:

So on October 3rd, Aldon applied for reinstatement. Which means the NFL has until December 3rd to make a decision.

This means that Smith should have applied for reinstatement 60 days prior to November 17th, to force the NFL to decide no later than that day. So Smith, and his agent, dropped the ball there.

Schefter also had this little nugget in his column:

Which, if true, is great to hear. However, actions speak louder than words, and Aldon will have to maintain a clean record from here on out. His next suspension could be his last one.

In terms of on the field play, the Raiders must be anxious to get Aldon back in action. Adding a player of his caliber to the playoff push, paired with the eventual return of Mario Edwards Jr., has RaiderNation excited about this team can do.
