A new kicker in town: Kai Forbath gone

By Brett Conway

Kai Forbath was released on Monday. Kai Forbath missed a 46-yard field goal in Sundays 17-10 loss against the Miami Dolphins. Forbath since 2012 has made 87.1 percent of his kicks (60-69), ranking him 19th in that period.

Kai Forbath also has struggled with kickoffs since 2012, with only 48 touchbacks. Which is below league average.

Coach Jay Gruden announced Monday that Dustin Hopkins will be signed and will be the teams place kicker here going forward. This move comes for the Washington Redskins wanting a stronger leg for kickoffs, and a more accurate leg for field goal attempts.

Dustin Hopkins has never kicked in an NFL game before, he battled a groin injury in 2013 that landed him on the injured reserved. In 2015 Dustin Hopkins got beat out for the starting kickers job in the preseason for the New Orleans Saints by Zach Hocker.
