5 biggest winners from the NFL Scouting Combine

Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State

When a player from the FCS division comes to Indianapolis there tends to be a lot of pressure on him to perform. Not to mention the growing momentum that Wentz had established prior to arriving. He did nothing to disappoint, and I would argue that he even improved his standing among the top players in the NFL Draft. What impressed me most was his ability to throw with accuracy on the deep ball, even with wide receivers that he was not familiar with.  That is a hard thing to do and he made it look easy.

William Jackson III, CB, Houston

Prior to the week Jackson III was getting some love, but I don't think anyone would have said that he had the kind of speed that he put on display with a 4.37 40-yard dash. In fact, that was one of the few questions that most of us had of Jackson, but those are now long gone. He was No. 68 on my latest Big Board and that will drastically improve in the next edition.

Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame

One of the concerns for Fuller prior to this week was his ability to catch the ball with any consistency. We all knew that he was fast, and he confirmed what we have seen on tape with the fastest wide receiver 40-yard dash time of the year at 4.32. It was what he did in the drills, however, that really caught my eye. He is a "take the top off the defense" type of guy, and if he can catch the ball like he did in Indy, then he is for sure a first-round type of guy.

Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor

Most of us expected Billings, a former weight-lifting champion, to do something amazing at the Combine, but I don't think anyone expected that to come in the 40. At over 310 pounds, he cruised to a solid 5.05 -- which is flying at that weight. He is a solid run stuffer and will get some extra attention moving forward.

Jalen Ramsey, DB, FSU

This is a no-brainer, and in the interest of full disclosure very lazy, but Ramsey did exactly what we thought he would. Ramsey is a world class athlete who has participated in track at some obscenely high levels, so the Combine is second nature for him. I believe that he is the best defensive back in the draft because of his ability to be versatile and play all over the field. He was versatile and explosive in Indy with great performances across the board.
