49ers select Michigan State's Trenton Robinson
The San Francisco 49ers have selected free safety Trenton Robinson of Michigan State in the sixth round of the NFL draft.
Robinson had 76 tackles last season and his nine interceptions are tied for 12th in school history. That was enough for San Francisco to overlook his size - 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds - and select Robinson with the 180th overall pick Saturday.
Robinson will have a tough time making a final roster spot - let alone competing for playing time - on one of the NFL's best defenses. The NFC West champion 49ers are set at starting safety with Donte Whitner and Dashon Goldson.
