49ers likely to look for quarterback on draft's final day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The San Francisco 49ers are likely to land a quarterback on the final day of the NFL draft.

Even now with it looking as if Colin Kaepernick will stay put and is guaranteed $11.9 million for the 2016 season. Super Bowl champion Denver, which had been in talks to trade for him, drafted Paxton Lynch as the likely heir apparent to Peyton Manning.

Kaepernick, demoted in favor of Blaine Gabbert in November, is recovering from surgeries on his thumb, knee and shoulder.

General manager Trent Baalke might try to move up from late in the fourth round, the first of eight remaining scheduled picks Saturday.

San Francisco has addressed needs on both sides of the ball so far, choosing Oregon defensive lineman DeForest Buckner and Stanford guard Joshua Garnett in the first round and Mississippi State cornerback Will Redmond in the third round.
