49ers Get Tim Williams in With the First Pick's Mock NFL Draft

FanSided site With the First Pick has Alabama linebacker Tim Williams going to the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

For the 1-7 San Francisco 49ers, the only hope on the horizon is a high draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

If the season were to end today, the Niners would hold the No. 2 overall pick — one spot behind the winless Cleveland Browns. And with a slew of needs across the board, San Francisco is in a unique position to simply take the best player available.

Our friends over at FanSided’s With the First Pick dished out their most recent Round 1 mock. Their choice? Alabama outside linebacker/EDGE Tim Williams.

Here’s the breakdown:

Tim Williams is the perfect edge-rusher for the 49ers to pick here at No. 3 overall. He has a Derrick Thomas-like snap-count anticipation, get-off, burst off the edge and counter-moves. It would be much harder to throw on the 49ers if they pick Williams right here.

Most Niners fans would likely be hoping for Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett. But, as you might have guessed, he winds up going to the Browns at No. 1.

Williams has 21 tackles and seven sacks this season so far. The 6-foot-3, 252-pound talent has all the makings of an elite pass-rusher. But a recent arrest on a gun charge and marijuana possession paints a negative picture.

More from Niner Noise

San Francisco will likely have to go defense first in the NFL Draft, although there is no shortage of needs for still-general manager Trent Baalke.

Some big boards, like that of CBS Sports’ Rob Rang, don’t even have Williams listed in the first round at all.

Regardless, San Francisco needs help in the pass rush. So if Williams continues to play well, and the legal issues don’t derail his stock, it’s possible he’ll be on the Niners’ draft radar.
