2017 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Week Seven Edition

Week Seven is now in the books, and some teams have already been penciled in for top picks, aka Cleveland (0-7) and San Francisco (1-6). These teams have problems all across the board, and could easily trade down to secure more picks in a very deep draft.

This year features a plethora of pass rushers, and a surplus of shutdown cornerbacks. All across the board there is talent, so it seems like it will be difficult to make bad picks this year, especially early on and if you need a cornerback.

This will also be a draft where we see the running back stigma get broken with names like Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, and Nick Chubb all expected to enter this year’s draft, and we could see multiple running backs taken in the first round since 2015.

Myles Garrett

Defensive End, Texas A&M

The Browns are a very incomplete roster, and need to continue to fill in their holes before making a play for a franchise quarterback, not to mention Cody Kessler has at least earned another look. The Browns’ defense has been porous at times, but has shown improvement though out the year. Myles Garrett is hands down the top prospect in the draft, and a guaranteed slam dunk. He would be a huge get for the Browns’ defense, and not to mention that they could spring for a quarterback, like a JT Barrett or Mitch Trubisky later in the draft or trade some of their 14 picks to move up and get a quarterback at some point earlier than that.Next: San Francisco 49ers

Deshone Kizer

Quarterback, Notre Dame

The 49ers QB combo of Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick is bad, and I wouldn’t expect them to continue to pay Kaepernick $19-million to be below average under center. Deshone Kizer is the best instant fix, and long term answer at quarterback, and would be a good play in the Chip Kelly system. Kizer is an instant upgrade, and a long term solution for a franchise with storied QB history. Next: Chicago Bears

Oct 15, 2016; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Miami Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya (15) looks on before the game against the North Carolina Tar Heels at Hard Rock Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Brad Kaaya

Quarterback, Miami (FL)

The Bears have lost two starting quarterbacks to injury in the first seven weeks of the season now, and neither of them appear capable of being long term solutions. The Cutler deal set the franchise back, but drafting Brad Kaaya will effectively solve that. He’s a pro style quarterback who would be a good fit with their style of play, and an upgrade in terms of getting the ball to Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White.Next: Carolina Panthers

Oct 8, 2016; Piscataway, NJ, USA; Michigan Wolverines running back Jabrill Peppers (5) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during their game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at High Points Solutions Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Jabrill Peppers

Linebacker/Cornerback/Safety, Michigan

The Carolina Panthers look like a shell of the team that went 15-1 and made it to the Super Bowl last year. They’ve had horrendous offensive line play, and subpar secondary play. There isn’t a premier offensive line talent to reach on early, but fortunately, there is top end secondary help. Peppers is a versatile player who can play linebacker, safety, and cornerback so he gives the Panthers a versatile option to fix their defensive woes. He would best fit them at safety, especially with the apparently gaping hole left by Roman Harper.Next: New York Jets

Apr 8, 2016; Gainesville, FL, USA; Florida Gators defensive back Jalen Tabor (31) looks on during the first quarter of the Orange and Blue game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

Jalen Tabor

Cornerback, Florida

The Jets’ secondary has been a disaster this year, especially Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine. They need a premier corner who can shut down receivers, and Jalen Tabor looks the part. Tabor’s a good fit in Todd Bowles’ defensive scheme, and could help tighten up that back end that is currently ranked 28th in total passing defense, and is 7th in touchdowns allowed (13). Next: New Orleans Saints

Oct 22, 2016; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jonathan Allen (93) returns a fumble for a touchdown against the Texas A&M Aggies during the third quarter at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mandatory Credit: John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Allen

Defensive End, Alabama

The Saints defense has holes to fill all over the board, and with the top two secondary players off the board it may be wise to bolster their defensive line. Jonathan Allen made the best decision of his career by returning to Alabama for one more year, he has wrecked every team’s offense they’ve faced. Allen has as many touchdowns since week three as Christian McCaffrey, he has 35 tackles, six sacks, and has lived in opposing backfields. Allen is an instant fix for any defensive line that needs a disruptive force. Next: Jacksonville Jaguars

Dec 31, 2015; Arlington, TX, USA; Michigan State Spartans defensive end Shilique Calhoun (89) and Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Cam Robinson (74) during the game in the 2015 Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Robinson

Left Tackle, Alabama

The Jaguars need to build up their offensive line to A) protect Blake Bortles and B) establish a running game. Cam Robinson established that he is the best offensive lineman in this draft when he kept Myles Garrett at bay on Saturday. He would be a great fit at tackle there, and both his run and pass blocking skills would be huge upgrades over their current lineman. The Jaguars could find their left tackle for the next 10 years in Robinson if they take him.Next: Miami Dolphins

Oct 15, 2016; Baton Rouge, LA, USA; LSU Tigers safety Jamal Adams (33) celebrates after picking up a fumble during the third quarter of a game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Tiger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Jamal Adams

Safety, LSU

The Dolphins secondary has been picked on this year, and they could use a long term upgrade at both cornerback and safety. Adams is a guy that jumps out at you when watching games, and film. He’s a playmaker who is capable of flying all over the field to make tackles, jump routes, and cover. He’s a talent similar to Eric Berry, when he came out, and can instantly improve the Dolphins secondary patrolling deep. Next: Tennessee Titans (from LA)

Oct 15, 2016; Clemson, SC, USA; Clemson Tigers wide receiver Mike Williams (7) reacts after scoring a touchdown during the first half against the North Carolina State Wolfpack at Clemson Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Williams

Wide Receiver, Clemson

The Titans have found a quarterback, they have two running backs, now all they need is a playmaking receiver. Mike Williams is the answer, he’s a big, fast, and playmaking receiver who can instantly help their receiving corp. He came back from a neck injury this year to put up 39 receptions for 578 yards (good for a 14.8 average) and four scores. He’s a big play threat, and excellent deep ball receiver who would add another dynamic to their offense. Next: Baltimore Ravens

Oct 8, 2016; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes safety Malik Hooker (24) returns the interception during the second half against the Indiana Hoosiers at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes won 38-17. Mandatory Credit: Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Malik Hooker

Safety, Ohio State

The Ravens secondary has never been the same since Ed Reed retired. Malik Hooker is no Ed Reed, but he is talented safety who is very capable of starting as a rookie. He’s a physical, explosive, and fast safety with good ball skills. Now that he is getting more playing time since Tyvis Powell and Vonn Bell are gone his stock has exploded. He is making plays all over the field, and showcasing his NFL potential week in and week out. Next: Tennessee Titans

Oct 8, 2016; College Station, TX, USA; Tennessee Volunteers defensive end Derek Barnett (9) in action during the game against the Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field. The Aggies defeat the Volunteers 45-38 in overtime. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Derek Barnett

Defensive End, Tennessee

The Tennessee Titans were able to upgrade on offense early in the draft, and now they take another defensive building block. Derek Barnett’s a talented pass rusher who lives in opposing backfields, and can make plays. This season he has 32 tackles, six sacks, and an interception against Alabama two weeks ago. Barnett would be an excellent addition to the Titans defense, and a good player to build around. Next: San Diego Chargers

Oct 22, 2016; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Marlon Humphrey (26) intercepts the ball from Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Josh Reynolds (11) at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Marlon Humphrey

Cornerback, Alabama

The Chargers’ secondary has been picked apart all season long, especially at the end of games. Marlon Humphrey has had a breakout season at Alabama, and continues to take steps in the right direction week in and week out. Humphrey’s very athletic, and has the size NFL teams look for. The Chargers could get a steal here with the 12th pick in Humphrey, a starting cornerback tandem of Marlon Humphrey and Jason Verrett could be very difficult to throw on. Next: Cincinnati Bengals

Oct 15, 2016; Tucson, AZ, USA; USC Trojans wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (9) scores a touchdown against the Arizona Wildcats during the first half at Arizona Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Juju Smith-Schuster

Wide Receiver, USC

The Bengals need another receiving threat who can produce in the red zone, especially if Eifert can’t return to full form. USC’s Juju Smith-Schuster is the man, he’s big, physical, and has good hands. He underwhelmed at the beginning of the season against Alabama recording only one catch for nine yards, but since then he has 39 receptions for 554 yards and eight touchdowns. Smith-Schuster will give them another great option along with Tyler Boyd and AJ Green. Next: Indianapolis Colts

Oct 22, 2016; Baton Rouge, LA, USA; LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette (7) kneels prior to kickoff of a game against the Mississippi Rebels at Tiger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Leonard Fournette

Running Back, LSU

Frank Gore is now 33-years-old and is only getting older. The Colts also need a young running back who can scare defenses, and force teams to not load the box. Leonard Fournette is the perfect match for the Colts’ pro style approach. He’s rushed for 670 yards and five touchdowns despite missing three games, and having another postponed. Despite his ankle injury, he is hands down the best running back prospect in this draft, and is well worth a first round selection. The bruising back has an Adrian Peterson like skill set, and is a guy who can run for 100+ yards a game. Next: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Oct 31, 2015; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Golden Gophers wide receiver KJ Maye (1) holds the ball out for a first down as Michigan Wolverines cornerback Jourdan Lewis (26) touches him in the second half at TCF Bank Stadium. Michigan won 29-26. Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Jourdan Lewis

Cornerback, Michigan

Jourdan Lewis is a talented corner that could form the NFL’s next great corner duo with Vernon Hargreaves III. Lewis made national headlines with his unbelievable one handed interception vs. Wisconsin, but this kind of playmaking ability comes without much shock to scouts. Lewis is an athletic playmaker with shutdown ornery potential at the next level.Next: Arizona Cardinals

Oct 7, 2016; Boston, MA, USA; Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) passes the ball against Boston College during the first quarter at Alumni Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

Deshaun Watson

Quarterback, Clemson

Carson Palmer had a career last season, but now at age 37, he is looking like a shell of 2015 Palmer. Deshaun Watson, if he does fall this far, would be the perfect replacement for Palmer. His ability to run would add an entire new dimension to the Cardinals offense, and his elite deep ball accuracy would benefit all of the Cardinals fast receivers. Watson is a rare prospect, and would be a huge get for Bruce Arians and company. Imagine having to contain both Watson and David Johnson in the run game, that could be a nightmare to plan for. Next: Buffalo Bills

Oct 1, 2016; Nashville, TN, USA; Florida Gators quarterback Austin Appleby (12) throws with pressure from Vanderbilt Commodores inside linebacker Zach Cunningham (41) during the second half at Vanderbilt Stadium. Florida won 13-6. Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Zach Cunningham

Linebacker, Vanderbilt

Zach Cunningham from Vanderbilt is worthy of an All-American nod. He’s a long, athletic, and playmaking linebacker who can play on the inside or outside. Cunningham’s a consistent tackler, and could be another defensive force for the Bills to add. A revamped front seven including Reggie Ragland, Shaq Lawson, and Cunningham would be great for the Bills moving forward. He’s had a productive career at Vandy he has 216 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and recovering five fumbles. Next: Pittsburgh Steelers

Jan 1, 2016; Glendale, AZ, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey (68) against the Ohio State Buckeyes during the 2016 Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Mike McGlinchey

Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

The Steelers should look to add offensive line help, and Notre Dame’s Mike McGlinchey would be the best prospect on the board after Cam Robinson was taken. McGlinchey’s another talented run and pass blocker who can open holes for Le’Veon Bell and company. He’s a value selection here, and fills a team need. He’s also versatile enough to play anywhere they may need him to play. Next: Atlanta Falcons

Oct 15, 2016; Gainesville, FL, USA; Florida Gators defensive back Quincy Wilson (6) intercepted the ball and ran it back for a touchdown against the Missouri Tigers eduring the second quarter at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Quincy Wilson

Cornerback, Florida

The Falcons have one of, if not, the best offenses in the NFL, but they’re defense is nowhere near on the same level. Fresh off of blowing a 17 point lead over the Chargers at home it’s clear they need to rebuild some of their defense. Quincy Wilson would be another potential shutdown corner in the mix with Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant. Dan Quinn loves to have secondary members who hit hard, make plays on the ball, and can excel in run support (just look at his time in Seattle) this pick would make all the sense in the world if they try to improve their secondary. Next: Washington Redskins

Dec 5, 2015; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Michigan State Spartans defensive lineman Malik McDowell (4) signals possession during the first quarter against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Conference football championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Malik McDowell

Defensive Tackle, Michigan State

The Redskins’ run defense has been porous at times this season, they’re 27th in the league allowing 119.7 yards per game and 5.0 yards per carry. Malik McDowell in the middle of that defensive line would help ease some of that bleeding. He’s a great run stopper, and requires constant attention in the middle given his size and strength. The Redskins can’t miss him here if he’s still available for the taking, their run defense can’t improve without an upgrade at tackle. Next: New York Giants

Oct 15, 2016; Tallahassee, FL, USA; Florida State Seminoles running back Dalvin Cook (4) is tripped up during a run in the game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Doak Campbell Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Dalvin Cook

Running Back, Florida State

The Giants’ run offense has been anemic thus far, and is currently ranked 30th in the league with only 470 yards and four touchdowns, good for 70.3 yards per game. Dalvin Cook is exactly what they need to bring the running game back to the Meadowlands. Cook has rushed for 900 yards, seven touchdowns, and an average of 5.7 yards per carry. Cook’s got an elite mix of speed and power to his style that makes him such a unique prospect, and a perfect fit for the Gmen. Next: Detroit Lions

Oct 15, 2016; Madison, WI, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Gareon Conley (8) celebrates following the game against the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium. Ohio State won 30-23. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Gareon Conley

Cornerback, Ohio State

The Lions have the 25th ranked passing defense in the league and have already surrendered 1,911 yards and have given up the second most passing touchdowns with 18. Gareon Conley has two interceptions this year and six passes defended for the Buckeyes this year, and has been their best cover corner. He offers Detroit a blanket corner who can help them cover on the outside or from the slot corner position. Next: Kansas City Chiefs

Sep 3, 2016; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Raekwon McMillan (5) against the Bowling Green Falcons at Ohio Stadium. Ohio State won the game 77-10. Mandatory Credit: Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Raekwon McMillan

Linebacker, Ohio State

The Chiefs defense has suffered heavily since Justin Houston went down, and adding another talented linebacker would greatly benefit them. Raekwon McMillan is capable of playing both in and outside linebacker, but would more than likely play inside with Dee Ford and Justin Houston already occupying the starting outside roles. McMillan’s a good run stopper, and can drop back into coverage and knock down passes (eight in his career). Next: Houston Texans

Oct 22, 2016; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Tim Williams (56) reacts after sacking the Texas A&M Aggies quarterback at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Tim Williams

Linebacker, Alabama

The Texans already have a talented defense, and are 11th in sacks right now with 16, but adding Tim Williams would make their front seven an absolute nightmare to deal with. Williams is an unstoppable pass rushing force who is tied for 18th in the NCAA with seven sacks this year. Williams is a speed rushing machine who has made a living in opposing backfields this year, and despite a recent arrest, he is worth a first round selection. In only one and half years of seeing real time Williams has 17.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles.Next: Denver Broncos

Sep 10, 2016; Champaign, IL, USA; Illinois Fighting Illini defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot (91) tackles North Carolina Tar Heels running back Elijah Hood (34) in the endzone for a safety during the 2nd quarter at Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

Dawuane Smoot

Defensive End, Illinois

The Broncos defense is nasty, and they can make it even nastier. Dawuane Smoot is an unheralded pass rusher who can play either defensive end or outside linebacker, which would give the Broncos another hybrid edge rusher that they can put at either spot. Smoot’s racked up 11.5 sacks in college as well as 111 tackles, and 31.5 of those for a loss. His ability to get in the backfield would give the Broncos another disruptive edge rusher to put on the other side of Von Miller once Demarcus Ware is gone. Next: Cleveland Browns (from PHI)

Sep 10, 2016; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Reuben Foster (10) does a video on a phone after the game against Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tide defeated the Hilltoppers 38-10. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Reuben Foster

Linebacker, Alabama

The Browns’ offense got a lot of playmakers in last year’s draft, and they really haven’t had bad offensive production this year. However, it’s always difficult to play from behind, and they always are. Reuben Foster is a heat seeking missile in the middle of the field, and is a true three down linebacker. The Browns could use an elite inside linebacking prospect next to Demario Davis, and this allows them to use Christian Kirksey on third downs again. Foster is a complete linebacker who could give the Browns a much needed presence in the middle of the field for years.Next: Green Bay Packers

Sep 24, 2016; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide tight end O.J. Howard (88) scores a touchdown against the Kent State Golden Flashes at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

OJ Howard

Tight End, Alabama

Tre'Davious White

Cornerback, LSU

The Raiders’ defense is almost to the point where they can be feared, but they’re not quite there yet. Adding a ballhawking corner with special teams upside can help them in that climb. Tre’davious White is a great fit in their defensive scheme, and offers a lot of returning and kick team upside. He has six interceptions, 155 tackles, 25 passes defended, and three punt return touchdowns in college. White’s speed, ball skills, playmaking ability, and cover skills make him a unique prospect for the Raiders to take. Next: Seattle Seahawks

Oct 8, 2016; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Pat Elflein (65) and teammates Jalyn Holmes (11) and Joe Burger (48) celebrate following the game against the Indiana Hoosiers at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes won 38-17. Mandatory Credit: Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Pat Elflein

Offensive Line, Ohio State

The Seahawks’ defense is nearly impenetrable, the fact that they had their time of possession doubled on Sunday, and still ended the game in a 6-6 tie is very impressive. They don’t need to add any defensive talent here, they need to protect Russell Wilson. Wilson has been running for his life all season long, and they seriously need to upgrade their line or risk hurting their franchise guy, and continue to struggle establishing the run. Pat Elflein has blocked for mobile quarterbacks his whole career at Ohio State, and his pass and run blocking skills are exactly what that depleted o-line needs.Next: Dallas Cowboys

Oct 15, 2016; Gainesville, FL, USA;Missouri Tigers defensive end Charles Harris (91) works out prior to the game against the Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Charles Harris

Defensive End, Missouri

The Cowboys’ offense is set for so many years, it should effectively scare everyone in the league. Their defense however, is an entirely different story. They need guys who can get to the quarterback and contain the run, and Charles Harris is the best guy left on the board to do that. He’s a very athletic end who can get in the backfield fast, this year he has 28 tackles, 5.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. Harris is the athletic edge rusher that they are currently missing this year, and will be a good complement to Randy Gregory once he returns from suspension.Next: Philadelphia Eagles (from MIN)

Jan 11, 2016; Glendale, AZ, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide running back Kenyan Drake (17) runs with the ball against Clemson Tigers cornerback Cordrea Tankersley (25) during the 2016 CFP National Championship at U. of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Cordrea Tankersley

Cornerback, Clemson

Tankersley was the only returning starter from Clemson’s secondary last year, and led the ACC in passes defended least year with 19. He’s a good cover corner with ball skills (five picks in 2015), and can help in run support (48 tackles). He’s athletic and has the size that teams look for nowadays. The Eagles currently have the third best passing defense in the league, but a little depth can’t hurt here, especially with a talent like Tankersley joining their secondary. Next: New England Patriots

Sep 17, 2016; Ann Arbor, MI, USA; Colorado Buffaloes defensive back Chidobe Awuzie (4) rushes on Michigan Wolverines quarterback Wilton Speight (3) and causes a fumble in the first quarter at Michigan Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Chidobe Awuzie

Cornerback, Colorado

The Pats always find the hidden gems, and a lot of people don’t know Chidobe Awuzie, but he’s starting to appear on NFL draft radars. In college he is responsible for 236 tackles, seven sacks, three interceptions, 20 passes defended, six forced fumbles, and two recoveries. Awuzie has developed into a triple threat who can stop the run, blitz, and cover well. He’s an under the radar prospect, and can help the Pats’ secondary who currently ranks 23rd in the NFL and can play both in the slot and on the outside.
