Wizards take Hayward, expected to go to 'Wolves

The Washington Wizards have taken Lazar Hayward from Marquette with the 30th overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-6 Hayward isn't expected to play for the Wizards, however. Washington had a proposed deal to swap the 30th and 35th picks with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 23rd and 56th selections, pending NBA approval.

The No. 23 pick by Minnesota was 6-foot-7 forward Trevor Booker from Clemson.

The Wizards earlier chose John Wall with the No. 1 overall pick and struck a deal to get veteran guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 overall selection from the Chicago Bulls. The No. 17 pick was Kevin Seraphin from French Guyana.
