Will Mavericks focus on shooting in the draft?

The Dallas Mavericks have the 21st overall pick in this year's draft. If they keep it and take a player who actually helps them next season, it would stray from how they normally do business.

Dallas did not have a pick in 2014, and zero players on last season's roster were drafted by the team. But times are changing, and the Mavericks are in need of some young, fresh talent. Here's ESPN's Royce Young with more on what type of player GM Donnie Nelson and owner Mark Cuban should look to snag:

"Rick Carlisle's system creates lots of space and lots of 3s, making [R.J.] Hunter a potentially ideal fit in the backcourt. Utah guard Delon Wright, Virginia guard Justin Anderson and UNLV combo guard Rashad Vaughn are also mentioned as possible targets."

While it's clear the team needs a point guard, using the draft to grab one may not be the smartest strategy. Instead, it's all about shooting, smart players who know how to move without the ball and can space the floor. Dallas needs all the talent it can get.
