Why is Shelvin Mack getting more playing time than Dennis Schroder?

For the second game in a row, Atlanta's Dennis Schröder was listed as "Did Not Play: Coaches Decision" but head coach Mike Budenholzer has offered very little clarity.

The Hawks fell to the Knicks while Schröder was sidelined. Instead, Shelvin Mack earned valuable minutes in the rotation behind starter Jeff Teague. Mack also served that role during Tuesday's victory against Houston. Schröder hasn't played since last Monday, when Atlanta lost to Indiana. He recorded 4 points, 1 assist and 2 turnovers in 12 minutes.

"We're always trying to grow our roster, develop our roster. Shelvin has been working hard and he's someone we have a lot of faith in so it's good to get Shelvin some minutes," said Budenholzer, via KL Chouinard. "You need all 15 guys as you go through a season. We'll continue to work on that."

Additionally, after a recent stint in the D-League, Walter Tavares became the first big man off the bench and clocked valuable minutes. He recorded 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks during 15 minutes on the floor.

While Schröder seems to be lost in the shuffle for Atlanta, Budenholzer confirms that his development is still a key to success for the Hawks. He averages a career-high 10.5 points per game, a career-high 4.3 assists per game as well as 1.1 steals and 2.5 rebounds.

"(We'll) continue to grow and develop the roster and continue to grow and develop Dennis," he said, via MyAJC.com.
