Wall, Porter lead Wizards to 103-91 win over Magic
WASHINGTON (AP) When the Washington Wizards wanted to put away Orlando again, they turned to John Wall and Kris Humphries.
Wall had 24 points and 13 assists, Humphries scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter and the Wizards extended their dominance against the Magic with a 103-91 victory Friday night.
It was Washington's 11th straight win - three this season - over the improving Magic, who entered with a 13-5 record since Nov. 25, best in the Eastern Conference.
Wall scored 12 points in the final period and the Wizards went on a 15-3 run that gave them a 93-81 lead with 3:51 left.
Humphries had a season-high 23 points on Nov. 14 in the previous meeting between the teams, and Wall has been on quite a roll lately. He's compiled eight consecutive games with more than 11 assists, the only NBA player to do that this season.
''If I knew that a combination was going to work, I'd be a hell of a coach. It's just a hunch,'' Washington coach Randy Wittman said.
Otto Porter added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards. Marcin Gortat had 10 points with 14 rebounds.
Victor Oladipo led Orlando with 20 points. Nikola Vucevic had 14.
Magic coach Scott Skiles was annoyed at his team's effort in transition.
''They were sprinting. We were jogging,'' Skiles said.
THE LOSING STREAK CONTINUES
Orlando has taken note of its skid against Washington.
''We have to realize that they've been punking us, really. Until we get tired of them punking us, we're never going to beat them,'' Oladipo said.
The streak precedes the arrival of Skiles, who is in his first year as Magic coach.
''This is a years-long thing. This isn't just this season. I don't know. I don't know if guys are intimidated by them. I have no idea,'' Skiles said.
Wittman had no explanation, either.
''They've all been gritty games. It's not going to be a high-flying affair when these two teams meet,'' he said.
LOSING CONTACT
Washington rookie Kelly Oubre made three of his five shots, but the two he missed were glaring - both potential alley-oop dunks on passes from Wall.
Oubre had an excuse.
''He said he couldn't see. He said he lost a contact,'' Wall said with a laugh.
NO HOLIDAY
Wittman chuckled when asked if it was hard playing on New Year's Day.
''Not after 32 years. You become blind to it,'' he said. ''Our business - I don't look at too many holidays. I just make sure my family enjoys them.''
READY FOR LONDON?
Skiles said the team hasn't begun preparing for its game in London against Toronto on Jan. 14.
''We've got the itinerary. We know what our responsibilities are when we get there,'' Skiles said. ''I don't think there's anything to plan for. We're in no position to rest guys.''
