Victor Oladipo believes NFL's national anthem protests will carry over to NBA
Thunder guard Victor Oladipo told Complex Sports this week that he believes Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem will carry over into the NBA this season.
Oladipo, 24, was asked whether he thought the protests, which are spreading around the NFL and into other sports, would be continued by NBA players. Kaepernick has chosen to kneel during the playing of the anthem before games in protest of racial inequalities and police brutality in the U.S.
“Oh, no question. I truly believe it will,” Oladipo said. “Because at the end of the day it’s a sport, and people are gonna be looking at some guys in the NBA to see what they’re gonna do as well. At the end of the day you just control what you can control, so your opinion is your opinion, that’s the beauty of the United States, so, do whatever you feel is best that will help you do whatever you believe.”
Oladipo joined the Thunder in an off-season trade, and says he has yet to discuss any protests with teammates.
The NBA season opens Oct. 25.
