Trade Rumors: Pelicans Are Interested in PG Tyus Jones
With five days remaining until the start of the regular season, the New Orleans Pelicans are back in the rumor mill of NBA trades.
The New Orleans Pelicans might not be done shuffling the roster after all…
According to The Vertical, the New Orleans Pelicans are among several teams with interest in pursuing Point Guard Tyus Jones of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This rumor has provoked a lot of questions, trying to understand the reasoning of adding another player to the already crowded backcourt.
Are the Pels satisfied with the play of Tim Frazier? Can Langston Galloway handle Point Guard duties off the bench? What is the status of Lance Stephenson, who can lead the offense when necessary?
There is an estimate deadline of when Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans may return, but is the front office willing to suffer losses until then? All of these questions prove why this rumor may have validity.
Tyus brings an uncanny ability to score around the basket. He also brings a smooth shooting form and the knack for hitting big-time shots. In Duke’s championship win against the Wisconsin Badgers, he sealed the game with clutch baskets and became the fifth freshman of All-Time to win the Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
Though Tyus had a roughly quiet rookie season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he displayed not only his ability to shoot the basketball, but the ability to be an excellent facilitator in his limited time. Jones brings good size to the position as well. Tyus put on a show during the 2016 Summer League, which led to him notching the Summer League MVP Award.
The potential is there for him to be a serviceable player for the Pelicans. But, is he worth trading for and what assets can New Orleans give up for him? As of right now, the other team in competition for Jones is the Philadelphia 76ers. Fans will see what happens as the season progresses.
