Tom Brady joins the Celtics in recruiting Kevin Durant

As one of the less likely candidates in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes this free agency, the Boston Celtics had two options for their meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder forward:

They chose the latter of these approaches, judging by reports of Tom Brady joining the Celtics for their Hamptons meet-up with Duranton Saturday.

That is a bold move by the Celtics. And people are freaking out over it.

According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, one NBA executive thinks the move is a bad...branding decision?

And Celtics' guard Isaiah Thomas is all eye balls for the meeting.

I don't know how this will end. The Celtics, even in the capacity of up-and-comers in the Eastern Conference, still seem like a prohibitively long shot to land Durant's talents. But then again, weirder things have happened. And with Tom Brady -- an athlete Durant admires deeply -- in the room, the sliding scales against Boston might be brought back to more neutral footing.

In any case, this free agency is complete bananas. And you should enjoy these Entourage cameos for what they are: pure spectacle.

Dan is on Twitter. Bringing Tom Brady to the Hamptons to talk about championships to a guy who doesn't play football is the ultimate Massachusetts move.
