The Rockets need to draft a point guard

The Houston Rockets are in desperate need of a capable secondary ball-handler, someone who can make plays for others, score and run a competent pick-and-roll. It's possible they go after one in free agency, but it's even more likely they acquire him with their first-round pick in this month's draft.

Courtesy of SB Nation's Rockets blog The Dream Shake, here's a look at four point guards who could potentially fill in as an eventual starter, should Patrick Beverley leave in free agency:

"The Rockets philosophy has always been to add talent, athleticism, and length. Jerian Grant has all that and if he improves his three-point shooting, he has a chance to be a special player. Grant is a fantastic point guard with clear big-play ability, but he does most of his damage with the ball in his hands. The Rockets need a ball handler who can create offense for himself (check), but doesn't dominate the ball because James Harden needs the rock. It would also be nice to have a point guard who can shoot off the catch, and that's where Grant struggles."

Grant is a very good option. He averaged 17 points and seven assists during his All-American senior season. But will he still be available when the Rockets are up to pick at 18? If not, there are several other solid alternatives, including Duke point guard Tyus Jones.

But so long as the Rockets fill their biggest need, they'll walk away from draft night with a smile on their face.
