'The Daily Show' obliterates Cousins for creating t-shirt controversy
Just about everything related to DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings is a train wreck. There seems to be a new controversy each month, most commonly regarding a head coach who's about to be fired.
(This is Cousins' sixth season, and if Sacramento lets George Karl go over All-Star Weekend, he'll be on his sixth NBA coach.)
Sometimes it isn't easy to decipher what drama is due to Cousins' histrionics, and what drama is because of Sacramento's willingness to enable his behavior. Sometimes, it's neither.
About one week ago, the Kings decided to celebrate the Chinese New Year by giving away free t-shirts. This seems harmless, right? Not quite. The t-shirts had a monkey on the front, and, considering it was the first day of Black History Month, for obvious reasons that didn't sit well with the All-Star center.

"The Daily Show" caught wind of what happened, and decided to rip Cousins to shreds.

Host Trevor Noah and his correspondent Ronnie Chieng note that Cousins should probably worry more about Sacramento's awful record than what's on a t-shirt, and the bit was intended to be all in good fun.
But given how far race relations still need to go in this country—and world—it's never a great idea to poke fun at an African-American who takes offense towards something that so clearly hurts him/her.
Comedy is comedy. And there are hundreds of different entry points to make fun of Cousins and have it be hilarious. But this probably isn't one of them.
