Stephon Marbury blasts Knicks' ownership for 'bamboozling' fans

Stephon Marbury is one of the most talented and accomplished players in Chinese Basketball Association history. He's won three championships and has his own statue—literally:

But in a previous life (aka from 2004 to 2008), Marbury was a franchise point guard on the New York Knicks.

Through five season, his tenure in the Big Apple was, in a word, brutal. Despite averaging 21.7 points and 8.1 assists in 2005 (a season in which he was surprisingly efficient and didn't miss a game), Marbury's numbers fell off a cliff right after that.

He fought with basically every coach New York employed: Larry Brown, Isiah Thomas and Mike D'Antoni. None worked, and Marbury didn't win a single playoff game with the team.

Nearly 10 years later, the Knicks are still the Knicks, a floundering, dysfunctional organization that isn't going to the postseason. And Marbury knows why:

He's not wrong. James Dolan is arguably the least-competent owner in all of professional sports, and it's no surprise that a franchise at the mercy of his thought process has struggled to find success.

For the sake of contrast, Marbury goes on to say that his cup of coffee with the Boston Celtics was basically a religious experience. Right now, the Celtics have the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks are in 13th place.

Maybe Marbury—a man who once filmed himself eating vaseline—knows what he's talking about after all.
