Stephen Curry thanks father in touching MVP speech

Stephen Curry ran away with the NBA Most Valuable Player Award on Monday, and he ran away with America’s heart after he accepted it.

The Golden State Warriors star gave a heartfelt speech and thanked his father, Charlotte Hornets all-time leading scorer Dell Curry, for all of his support throughout the years. While Curry was able to power his way through most of the address, he teared up at the mention of his dad.

Curry also received a rather touching introduction from Warriors general manager Bob Myers.

“It’s interesting in life, I think you meet or you look around at people, maybe famous people, famous athletes, and you say I would love to meet that person, man or woman,” Myers said, via Sports Grid, “and sometimes you get a chance to do that and most of the time, to be honest, you’re disappointed because they’re not quite what you thought they would be. …

“And then in the rare occasion you meet someone and they exceed what you thought, and I can promise you, Steph is — he embodies all of that.”

Despite the waterworks, Curry was all smiles at the end of the day.
