Steph Curry reveals what he told Kevin Durant moments after Game 7
Moments after the Golden State Warriors toppled the Oklahoma City Thunder to become the 10th team to erase a 3-1 playoff deficit, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant embraced on the court.
Two of the greatest scorers in today's game took time to appreciate each other's greatness and share a few words. Curry, who is seeking his second consecutive title, told reporters what he said to Durant during what must have been a heartbreaking moment for the Thunder star who is still searching his first championship.
"This is what it's all about," Curry said he told Durant, via the San Jose Mercury News. "This is what we play for. Those battles, those moments people will remember for a long time."
Curry's Game 7 performance will not be forgotten anytime soon. The reigning two-time MVP scored 36 points and hit seven 3-pointers to set up a Finals rematch with the Cavs and LeBron James.
"He's been to the Finals six times," Curry said. "That's crazy. You appreciate that greatness right there. I won't be thinking about that on the court, but afterwards, you can appreciate the star power he brings and the high level of basketball it is."
But as great as LeBron has been during his illustrious 13-year career, King James is now chasing the crown that Curry and the Warriors hold.
Golden State appeared to be on its way out when the Thunder led the Western Conference finals 3-1. Curry didn't look right on the court and the Thunder appeared to be too athletic, too much of a force.
But as the 73-win Warriors appeared to be on the ropes, they relied on their greatest strength -- the 3-pointer. The Warriors outscored the Thunder 114-30 from deep in the final three games.
Now the Cavs get their second consecutive shot at the Warriors -- this time at full strength. With a healthy Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in tow, LeBron will have the weapons he didn't have last year, when he single-handedly carried the Cavs in the Finals until they finally succumbed in six games.
If the Warriors come out on top again, LeBron's claim to best-player-on-the-planet status will passed on to Curry. But the Warriors star isn't so concerned with that.
"I appreciate the platform I have and what I get to do every single day," Curry said. "I don't play to pass up somebody else's shine or star or take whatever from them. That's not what I care about."
