Tragedy struck the Denver-area community of Lakewood, Colorado over the weekend, as 17-year-old girls' basketball player Mackenzie Forrest passed away after a single-car accident in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

No act, regardless of how grand or small, can repair the damage done by such an awful event. On Wednesday, however, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry showed his support for Forrest, her friends, and her family by shouting out the Lakewood High School star in his usual pregame tweet:

Curry has always been quick to help those who could use a bit of cheering up. Before the 2015-16 season, the reigning MVP and the Warriors met Taliq Davis, a 10-year-old fan who has an inoperable tumor.

Curry's gesture honoring the late Forrest was received warmly by the Lakewood High School community:

The Denver Nuggets also honored Forrest this week:

Contributions can be made to a charitable fund in Forrest's name that will establish basketball program scholarships for those in need.
