Reports: Sixers waive recently acquired center JaVale McGee
The Philadelphia 76ers have waived recently acquired center JaVale McGee, according to reports.
McGee, 27, was acquired prior to the Feb. 19 trade deadline from the Denver Nuggets in a deal that netted the Sixers a 2015 first-round pick. According to USA Today, McGee will not forfeit any of his $11.2 million salary for this season or any of his $12 million salary for next season.
In six games with Philadelphia, McGee averaged 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds. Overall this season, he has averaged 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 23 games. In his seven-season NBA career, McGee has averaged 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Once he clears waivers, McGee will be free to sign with any team -- even a playoff contender -- because he was waived by March 1.
