Report: Markieff Morris to the Rockets has been 'seriously discussed'
The Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets seem to be on the verge of a big trade, but they may have to wait about another month for it to take place.
The Rockets have long had interest in Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris, who became unhappy this offseason when the Suns traded his twin brother Marcus Morris to the Detroit Pistons.
With the Rockets lacking a power forward on a long-term contract, with both Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas eligible for restricted free agency next season, Morris is a logical fit both as an asset and next to Dwight Howard at the 4.
The potential hold-up in the deal may be the inability to match salaries before January 15th. That's the date that Rockets forward Corey Brewer becomes available trade, due to the size of the contract he signed this offseason in Houston.
Here's more from Marc Stein at ESPN.com:
"As ESPN.com reported Dec. 6, Houston has serious interest in the Phoenix Suns' very available Markieff Morris. And a Rockets offer of Corey Brewer and Terrence Jones, sources say, has not only been seriously discussed, the teams could get that deal done. The problem: Brewer isn't quite clear to be dealt yet. Because the Rockets re-signed Brewer to a salary ($8.2 million) that exceeds his prior salary ($4.7 million) by more than 20 percent -- and because Houston is over the salary cap -- Houston can't deal the veteran swingman until Jan. 15 as opposed to Dec. 15."
Morris is averaging 11.5 points a game in 25.1 minutes a night for Phoenix this season.
