Report: Kevin Martin injures wrist, will be examined Thursday
Kevin Martin has been having an up-and-down season for the Timberwolves, switching between a variety of roles trying to help a young team win. So far, he hasn't had a ton of success.
Martin's scoring average and field-goal percentage are the third-lowest and lowest of his career, respectively. Now, even after going for a season-high 37 points against the Lakers on Wednesday, things aren't looking up for the Timberwolves shooting guard.
From Kent Youngblood of the Star Tribune:
Even more bad news: Scoring 37 may not mean all too much on the health front for a guy like Martin. When Martin hurt his wrist against the Knicks last year, the injury that eventually required surgery, he also finished with exactly 37 points after sustaining the injury.
Maybe he's cursed when he goes for 37. Hopefully, this one isn't nearly as serious as the previous injury.
[Martin] hurt it early in the game when he banged it on Lakers center Roy HIbbert coming around a screen.
The good news: He stayed in the game. He scored a season-high 37 points – 20 after the third quarter – hitting on 14 of 27 shots and six of nine three pointers.
The bad news: It’s the same wrist that required surgery last year, surgery that kept him out of action for more than two months. Martin had been working his way out of a slump. He shot 33.1 percent overall in November, 28.6 percent on three-pointers. In December, so far, he is shooting 46.7 percent and had hit nine of 13 three-pointers.
Martin is having the wrist checked Thursday morning. We should know more after practice.
