Report: Carmelo Anthony will announce his return to the Knicks

It's been almost two weeks of teams courting Carmelo Anthony, with the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers leading the way. But according to Frank Isola of the NY Daily News, 'Melo isn't going anywhere. He'll reportedly announce his return to the Knicks on Thursday.

Their source, who is close to Anthony, said that unless Melo has a last-minute change of heart, he'll re-sign with the Knicks after "agonizing over this" for the last seven days.

"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the Daily News' source, who is said to be with Anthony before his scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil."

Other media outlets indicated Wednesday that Anthony hasn't yet made up his mind:

If Anthony does decide to return to the Knicks, he can sign the offered max contract of $129 million over five years as early as Thursday, the first day in which free agency contracts can become official. The Knicks aren't the only team to offer him their max contract, but because they are his previous team, they can offer him the most money and for the longest time.

Even though Anthony had said more than once during the season he intended to stay in New York, it was reported that his choices had narrowed down to joining Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles, where Anthony has an offseason home, and the Bulls, who he believed to be championship contenders.
