Report: Bryan Colangelo 'serious candidate' for Nets GM job

Colangelos must travel in packs.

Only a few weeks ago, famed executive Jerry Colangelo signed with the 76ers to help rebuild the worst team in the NBA. Now, his son Bryan, former Raptors and Suns general manager, is in the news.

Sources say Colangelo has quickly emerged as a serious candidate should the Nets go the route of hiring a proven NBA executive to succeed King and then pursue one of the top of available coaches, such as Tom Thibodeau or Mark Jackson.

Colangelo is a two-win Executive of the Year winner, garnering the award once with the Suns and once with the Raptors. He's a big name, who has relationships around the NBA, something that other rumored candidates don't necessarily own.

Nets CEO Brett Yormark, who is involved with the GM and coach search along with some others, has actually publicly admitted interest in University of Kentucky's John Calipari, though Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported it would take a 10-year, $120 million contract along with a dual coach/GM role to pry Cal away from Lexington.
