Report: Billy Donovan likely to be named Thunder coach
By Andrew Holleran
Billy Donovan to the NBA is apparently happening.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the 49-year-old Florida coach is “nearing an agreement” with the Oklahoma City Thunder. An announcement of his hiring is likely to happen on Thursday or Friday, Stein says. Stein reports “only an unforeseen collapse” will prevent the deal from happening.
Donovan has been at Florida since 1996 and has won two national championships.
Donovan will have a lot of talent to work with next season, but his biggest challenge will likely be attempting to convince Kevin Durant and, eventually, Russell Westbrook, to stay in Oklahoma City. The two superstars become free agents in one and two years, respectively.
