Purple shirt heckler explains exchange with Dwyane Wade
In the midst of flambeing the Charlotte Hornets in the final minutes of Game 6, Dwyane Wade seemed to take particular satisfaction in his work.
After all, he was singlehandedly shooting his team into the second round of the playoffs. Furthermore, he was driving a heckler sitting courtside in a purple shirt at Time Warner Cable Arena absolutely bonkers.
The exchanges between Wade and the purple-shirt-ed fan Hornets fan became a subplot by the end of Game 6 in Charlotte, and at the post-game presser, the 13-year Heat veteran waved off questions about his running side-battle with the fan.
"I'm not going to give that guy any more attention," Wade said.
He did, however, open up to reporters in the locker room about his exchanges, according to ESPN's Michael Wallace.
"He was over there telling me I should retire," Wade said. "I'm like, 'Whatever. Not yet.' But he was on me."
As for the fan, the man in question is Michael Deason—a 43-year-old Hornets season ticket holder.
After Friday's game, Deason spoke to the Charlotte Observer's Theoden Janes about his tiff with Wade and a larger ongoing feud he has with the Heat.
"No, I didn't lose the game for [the Hornets] last night," Deason said. "Hell, did I win the game for them in Game 3 and 4? Because I was cheering a hell of a lot louder in Game 3 and 4."
This is nothing new to Deason, who says he jaws with most teams that come into Time Warner Cable Arena.
"I played basketball," Deason said. "I understand the game, so I point out fundamentals to them and just stupid stuff. It'd be like if someone called and tried to tell you how to be a reporter or a journalist, when they wrote in the school newspaper. It would piss you off. And that's all I'm trying to do."
Sufficed to say, Deason achieved his goal to the tune of 10 Wade points in the fourth corner, five of those coming from big buckets in the final 46 seconds of the game.
Dan is on Twitter. Heckling is a double-edged sword.
