One tweet from LeBron James has a media value of $140,000

Social media can translate into big money these days, especially for athletes or other celebrities whose follower reach is in the millions.

According to one market research company, LeBron James tops the list of NBA players for the value of his Twitter feed, where a single tweet could reach 23 million people and be worth $140,000.

From ESPN's Darren Rovell:

"Opendorse, a company that specializes in executing and monetizing digital and social media campaigns for athletes, says a tweet from James, who has 23.2 million followers, has the highest value of any U.S. athlete. Each tweet from James has a media value of $139,474, the company said."

"We're basically saying that the value of one LeBron tweet is worth $140,000," said Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence. "And with that, you will reach 23 million people. It would cost you five times more to reach that many people with a TV ad."

James doesn't exactly need the money, of course, so it's highly unlikely he'd accept random advertisements that could adversely affect his brand. But it's interesting to think about nonetheless.

Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Floyd Mayweather and Dwight Howard are the next most influential athletes on this particular company's list.
