Nuggets join those chasing Miller
Mike Miller seems to be commanding quite a bit of interest these days.
According to ESPN.com, Denver is making a play for the free agent. Citing sources “close to the process,” the site says that the Nuggets have joined Oklahoma City and Memphis in pursuing the 33-year-old sharpshooter, who was released from the Miami Heat in an amnesty move earlier in the week.
The report says that Miller has already met with representatives from the Thunder and the Grizzlies, and “most of the teams pursuing Miller are offering a minimum salary but pitching the opportunity to take on a prominent role as a perimeter specialist on a championship contender.”
Miller averaged 4.8 points per game while making 59 starts, but played a larger role for the Heat late in the playoffs. He started in the final four games of the championship series, and the Heat went on to win the NBA Championship.
Heat president Pat Riley originally stated that his team did not plan to amnesty Miller, and said that the 6-foot-8, 218-pound forward was healthy. Miller previously had battled back problems.
"Mike is as healthy as he’s ever been, and he’s worked very hard in strengthening his back," Riley said on June 26, prior to the team announcing that Miller would be amnestied, according to FOX Sports Florida.
