Nuggets interview Wizards assistant for head coaching job

The Nuggets coaching search has picked up serious steam in the past few days. They've interviewed Melvin Hunt, Mike D'Antoni, Mike Malone, and now, Washington Wizards assistant Don Newman. Jorge Castillo of the Washington post has more:

"Denver recently discussed their vacancy with Washington Wizards assistant coach Don Newman, according to two people familiar with the situation.

The Nuggets were granted permission to speak to Newman. Denver General Manager Tim Connolly, a Catholic University graduate, is a former Wizards executive who began his career as an intern in Washington in 1996."

Newman's a bit of an outlier from the rest of the Nuggets' candidates. Unlike D'Antoni, Malone and Hunt, he's never been a head coach at the NBA level (though he was the head coach at Arizona State and Sacramento State). Thus, he doesn't quite fit the profile of what the Nuggets are looking for in terms of a proven head coach This could be a "favor" interview, done on behalf of Connelly, who used to work for the Wizards.
