New York Knicks: Did Derrick Rose Find His Form Against Chicago?

The New York Knicks have needed starting point guard Derrick Rose to step up as a facilitator. Against the Chicago Bulls, he did exactly that.

Just five games into the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the New York Knicks have already provided fans with a full range of emotions. From disappointment to exuberance to everything in between, it’s already been a roller coaster ride in New York.

In the fifth game of the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the Knicks flashed the immense potential that this team undeniably possesses.

All five starters scored at least 15 points as the Knicks pulled out a 117-104 victory over the rival Chicago Bulls. One of the shining stars from the game was point guard Derrick Rose, who had his best performance in a Knicks jersey to date.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Rose understands that the early part of the 2016-17 NBA regular season is all about catching a rhythm.

“We were trying to figure things out when we was out there. We was talking to one another, communicating,” Rose said. “… This is our fifth game. It’s all about catching that rhythm.”

The question is: was Rose able to catch his against the Bulls?

Rose finished with 15 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, one block, and a steal in 38 minutes of action. It was his first double-double since February of 2016, as well as the first time that he’s stepped up as a facilitator in New York.

Behind Rose and Brandon Jennings, who had seven assists to just one turnover, the Knicks moved the ball exceptionally well and recorded 32 assists to just five turnovers.

It was a necessary game for Rose to complete and thrive in.

Though Rose didn’t shoot especially well, he played an invaluable role in the Knicks’ second victory of the year. He made clutch shots late in the fourth quarter, set the table for his teammates, and even defended at a respectable level.

Most importantly, Rose overcame the boos from his hometown and former home crowd.

The Knicks can only hope that this is a sign of things to come.
