NBA Trade Rumors: Is Rudy Gay To The OKC Thunder Inevitable?

NBA Trade Rumors: The Sacramento Kings are almost definitely going to trade Rudy Gay this season; will it be to the Oklahoma City Thunder?

If there’s one “big” name that is almost definitely going to be traded at some point this season, it’s probably Rudy Gay.

He has expressed his interest to opt out and test free agency next summer, and has been vocal about his displeasure in Sacramento overall. We know he’s going to be traded. It’s more of a “when” and not “if” scenario at this point.

Although, according to Yahoo’s Adrain Wojnarowski, it looks like Gay to the Oklahoma City Thunder could be inevitable – mostly because, there aren’t a ton of other teams interested in such a move.

“The one player who is going to have to move between now and the trade deadline is Rudy Gay,” said Wojnarowski. “I don’t think the Kings can make the same mistake New Orleans made last year with Ryan Anderson. Ryan Anderson was pretty clear he was not going to re-sign there and they lost him for nothing. Especially for a team so devoid of assets, they couldn’t let him walk for nothing.

There’s no question Oklahoma City. Indiana has had interest in him. Houston has had some peripheral interest. I don’t think they have the pieces to trade.”

Of course, the Cameron Payne injury kind of messed this entire situation up. If Payne never got injured, Gay might already be in a Thunder uniform.

Interestingly, Payne is reportedly inching closer to a return. He could be a “few days away” from a return, actually.

Payne is recovering from a fracture in his foot, an injury that was sustained in September. Payne was penciled in to be the Thunder’s first guard off the bench prior to his injury. Payne averaged five points and two assists during his rookie season last year.
