NBA says no decision made on summer league
The NBA said Wednesday that it has not made a final decision on whether to hold the annual Las Vegas Summer League, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
"It's still being evaluated," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said, adding that an earlier report by the New York Daily News stating that the 2011 Summer League would be canceled was "premature."
The Summer League is a 10-day event that has been held in Las Vegas since 2004, serving as a showcase for rookies and seldom-used bench players to compete in front of NBA scouts and front office members.
Warren LeGarie, who helps run the Summer League, told the paper that he is not aware of any cancellation.
"Nobody at the league has told me we're shut down," LeGarie said. "So until the NBA tells us we're not playing, this thing goes on as scheduled July 8."
The NBA's collective bargaining agreement expires June 30, and most analysts expect a lengthy lockout that will last through at least part of next season. If the lockout goes into effect, no NBA-sanctioned events, including the Summer League, would be held.
The Summer League is scheduled for July 8-17, and will involve 22 teams competing at Las Vegas' Cox Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center.
