NBA Rumors: Kings Owner Holding Up DeMarcus Cousins Trade?
NBA Rumors: Is Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive the man standing between DeMarcus Cousins and his freedom from the franchise?
Most around the league believe that it’s a matter of “when” not “if” in regards to the potential for a DeMarcus Cousins trade.
Boogie has two years remaining on his contract (including this one) and considering the current state of the Sacramento Kings, the likelihood of Cousins re-signing long term with the team is slim.
During his tenure with the Kings, Cousins has not won more than 33 games in a single season. The team has only broke the 30-win plateau once.

It would be foolish for the Kings to not trade Cousins before his contract expires at the end of the 2017-18 season. And even though there are growing whispers that he could be moved sooner rather than later, there’s one man, it appears, that’s holding up the transaction.
According to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive is one of the voices in the team’s front office that doesn’t want to move Cousins. At least not yet.

I asked about Cousins just recently again, and Vivek Ranadive, the owner of the Sacramento Kings, does not want to trade DeMarcus Cousins. And so as long as that’s the case, all this talk is just that. It’s talk.
Even though it’s understandable that the owner wants to keep the team’s only star on the roster – because why would you want to trade your main attraction – Ranadive has to see the big picture. If he ever wants the Kings to lose their bad reputation, it’s going to take a full rebuild effort.
Right now, the Kings haven’t exactly sold out to it. After shuffling through what felt like two coaches per year for the last half decade, Sacramento brought in Dave Joerger – a proven leader – to help right the ship.
In order for him to turn it around, the Kings need to set a new foundation. And trading DeMarcus Cousins is part of that process, unfortunately.
